Dr. Jef Boeke is Professor of Biochemistry and Pharmacology and Founding Director of the Institute for Systems Genetics, NYU Langone Medical Center, since 2014. For 28 years before that he was at Jhons Hopknis University. He served as Professor of Molecular Biology & Genetics and was the Founding Director of the HiT Center, the first interdisciplinary Center in the IBBS. He maintains an adjunct appointment in the Dept. of Biology in the School of Arts and Sciences. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Bowdoin College and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Rockefeller University. Jef Boeke did postdoctoral work at MIT/Whitehead on yeast genetics with Gerald Fink and has been on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine since 1986.
Dr. Jef Boeke has been continuously funded by NIH since 1986, and has enjoyed research support from NSF, ACS, DARPA and numerous foundations. Funding highlights include serving as PI of a National Cooperative Drug Discovery Group, renewing an NCI program project grant currently in its 36th year, and leading an NIH Roadmap Technology Center aimed at developing new technologies for dissecting Networks and Pathways of Lysine Modification. Currently, he leads a Roadmap “Protein Capture Initiative” Center at Hopkins in conjunction with Biotech startup CDI Labs, Inc., based in Puerto Rico. Jef Boeke has also been active in Technology transfer, serving as a Founder of three biotech companies, as well as executing various licensing deals.
