Welcome to CienciaPR, an expert and resource network for all who are interested in science and Puerto Rico.
I did my undergraduate studies at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez and obtained a B.S. in Industrial Microbiology. I then obtained a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University. I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology at NYU.
Our laboratory studies the interplay between bacterial pathogens and the mammalian host. Specifically, we are interested in gaining insight into how bacterial pathogens sense different host environments to modulate the expression of virulence factors that can tamper with the host immune system to promote disease. To address these questions, we are employing a variety of techniques and approaches including genetics, immunology, biochemistry, proteomics, microarrays, tissue culture, and animal models of infection.
