I obtained my bachelors degree in biology from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, where I was a MARC fellow. I completed a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Tennessee-Oak Ridge. My postdoctoral training in cancer biology was done at the University of Cincinnatti, while my postdoctoral training in mouse cancer genetics was done at The Ohio State University. I was assistant professor at Emory University, Department of Radiation Oncology.
