Welcome to CienciaPR, an expert and resource network for all who are interested in science and Puerto Rico.
My academic and research background is in environmental microbiology and bioinformatics. My research interests lie in understanding microbial communities disturbed by anthropogenic activities, specifically contamination and urban settings, in ways to mitigate and promote environmental awareness.
In addition, concerned about the gender gap in STEM, I am passionate about mentoring and training Latinx women at undergraduate levels in environmental microbiology and bioinformatics.
My current research as a PhD student focuses on understanding the microbial composition and diversity (bacteria and fungi) of the atmosphere through bioinformatic tools, what atmospheric conditions could influence the atmospheric microbiome in urban landscapes, and how can bacteria be precursors of precipitation.
