Welcome to CienciaPR, an expert and resource network for all who are interested in science and Puerto Rico.
My name is Orlando I. Torres Rodríguez a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Sciences program at Ponce Health Sciences University. My thesis project focuses in the study of inflammatory processes mediated by microglia underlying in an animal model of PTSD. We also study learning and extinction of fear memories and anxiety under the guidance of Dr. James T. Porter's laboratory. I have been a member of Dr. Porter's laboratory for approximately five (5) years. My main task in this neuroscience-directed laboratory focused on collecting and analyzing the electrophysiology data; as well as running the behavioral protocols. We also perform molecular techniques such as: FACS, Western Blots, ELISA and RT-PCR.
Last December 5th, 2015 at the Puerto Rico Neuroscience Annual Conference I presented poster tittled: FEAR CONDITIONING AND EXTINCTION ALTER VENTRAL HIPPOCAMPUS ACTIVATION OF NMDAR CURRENTS IN INFRALIMBIC NEURONS.
