Sunshine Menezes grew up in northern Michigan, making moss boats and exploring country roads on her bicycle. She is executive director of Metcalf Institute at the University of Rhode Island and a clinical professor of environmental communication in the URI Department of Natural Resources Science. Her professional expertise spans oceanography, environmental policy, and inclusive science communication. She promotes equitable public participation in STEMM through the Inclusive SciComm Symposium, transdisciplinary graduate education, and organizing professional development workshops for journalists, scientists, and engineers. Menezes earned a B.S. in zoology from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in oceanography from the URI Graduate School of Oceanography.
