During November 7-10 the twelfth Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) took place in San Jose, California. ABRCMS is the largest professional conference for minority students in science, engineering and mathematics.

As in previous years, a large number of Puerto Rican students attended the conference. Ciencia Puerto Rico was not able to attend this year but we received news that a large number of students from Puerto Rican received awards.

Through this blog post we wish to acknowledge and extend our congratulations to the awardees. Thanks for representing Puerto Rico so well!

Mentorship is golden

“A mentor is somebody willing to fight for you the battles nobody else is willing to fight.” – Dr. Erika T. Camacho (who was mentored by THE Jaime Escalante) It could be said a good mentor is worth his or her weight in gold. A good mentor counsels, encourages, supports, guides, and listens, among many other things. Mentors can come in many shapes or forms. They can be family, friends, colleagues, teachers, professors, neighbors and even complete strangers.
