Students from the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey Institute of Research and Development for gifted students (IIDED by its acronym in Spanish) took the top places at the events of the underwater robot competition SeaPerch PR 2013 celebrated in Ponce. Students from various schools developed underwated robots that competed in different events like an Obstacle course, Deep Water Challenge, among others.

Puerto Rico's governor Alejandro García Padilla announced that seniors from public schools will be able to take the College Board exam free of charge starting this september.  He made the announcement during a visit from the Supreme Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor with elementaryt and middle school students.  Up to 27,00 students will be able to take advantage of this opportunity.  The exam will be given once a year during school hours and at the school they attend.

Over 110 youth from the Puerto Rico public school system attended the 4th Tecno Boyz Day, organized by Microsoft and the Department of Education (DE) and held at the Microsoft Operations facilities in Humacao.

For the sixth consecutive year, the student chapter of the Meteorological Society of Puerto Rico (SMPR) of the University of Puerto Rico's Mayagüez Campus (UPR-M), conducted the Weather Fest, an event that brought together middle and high school students with the mission of creating an interest in the discipline that explores the atmosphere.

Zuleimary Rodriguez Velez, vice president and lead organizer of the group, explained that the initiative, which was coordinated by students assigned to the UPR-M Meteorology curriculum, receives 600 to 700 students annually.
