FRONTIERS IN STEM CELLS IN CANCER (FriSC²), an annual advanced training course, trains promising physician and scientists from predominately underrepresented communities in sophisticated technologies using pluripotent stem cells for clinically relevant discoveries in cancer.  The purpose of this training course is to provide comprehensive and sophisticated training in research strategies and state-of-the-art methods on cellular, molecular and genetic approaches for advancing Cancer Stem Cell Research.

This NIH sponsored course is designed for young independent scientists, physicians and established investigators. We intend to give students the necessary knowledge of laboratory techniques, career mentoring and the ethical-legal-societal impact of cancer and stem cell research to greatly enhance their successful entry into this field.

FriSC² is a dynamic advanced training course that offers a fresh series of daily lecturers on emerging concepts, followed by extended discussion, laboratory research, technologically intense workshops and informal seminars over a week period.  These courses are offered at Howard University in Washington, DC and at Ponce Medical School in Puerto Rico.

The Stem Cells in Cancer Course will exclusively use human embryonic stem cell lines on the NIH Human Embryonic Stem Cell Registry, which are being routinely cultured at the Pittsburgh Development Center.
