The U.S. National Academies and The Research Council (TRC) of Oman are pleased to announce the second Arab American Frontiers of Science, Engineering and Medicine Symposium to be held in Muscat, Oman on December 13 to 15, 2014. This symposium will be held in partnership with The Research Council (TRC) of Oman, and supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The call for applications is now open and scientists, engineers and medical professionals from the U.S. and the Arab region are invited to submit their application online before the deadline of July, 6, 2014, 11:59 PM EDT(Washington, D.C. time).

Based on the success of the long standing Kavli Frontiers of Science of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the Frontiers of Engineering program of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, the National Academies initiated the Arab-American Frontiers ofScience, Engineering, and Medicine program. This program brings together outstanding young scientists, engineers, and medical professionals, between the ages of 30 and 45, from the United States and the 22 countries of the Arab League for a series of symposia to discuss exciting advances and opportunities in their fields. The goal of these meetings is to enhance scientificexchange and dialogue among young researchers in Arab countries and the United States, including the Arab science diaspora, and through this interaction facilitate research collaboration within and beyond the region.

One of the main objectives of this Frontiers symposium is to foster dialogue and collaborations across disciplines. Therefore, general participants from any scientific discipline  are invited to apply as long as they fulfill the eligibility criteria. Each general participant will also have the opportunity to present his or her research during poster sessions. In addition, after the symposium, teams of participants will be able to apply for a select number of fellowships (travel grants) to pursue further collaborative projects identified during the meeting. More details on the second symposium, organization and program can be found here.

Remember to submit your application online by the deadline of July 6, 2014. For questions regarding the upcoming symposium or the application process, please e-mail us at: AAFrontiers@nas.edu.
