Beetle named after Judge Sotomayor

An entomology group from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez has named an endemic beetle they recently discovered Apotomoderes sotomayorae, to honor Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and "to link this discovery to positive things, related to education and knowledge about nature."

"Vieques needs a hospital"

Steve Rothman, Democrat for New Jersey has requested the federal government to build a hospital of the highest quality in Vieques, which residents were exposed to six decades of military practices by the US NAVY. The contamination generated by such military practices has been linked to the high incidence of chronic diseases in the resident of the island-municipality.

Spaceships will be seen from Puerto Rico

This week, Puerto Ricans will be able to observe a Russian spaceship that recently separated from the International Space Station. They can also observe the Atlantis and the International Space Station. The Caribbean Astronomy Society will hold an educational activity on Saturday, after 6:30 pm in El Morro, for all of those interested in watching the spaceships cross the Puerto Rican sky.
