Microbiologist Guillermo Pimentel, 45, described his experience performing research and assisting patients in Liberia, where an ebola outbreak affected thousands of people. Liberia experienced almost 11,000 ebola cases, 3151 of these confirmed by laboratory tests. A total of 4,800 Liberians died of the illness.

For the second time this year the non-profit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) has been recognized by The White House. This time the recognition comes for their commitment to launch The Voice of Experience, a bilingual catalog to allow Hispanic students to explore STEM careers through the voice of successful Hispanic professionals.
