SAN JUAN – The $2.4 million that the Government of Puerto Rico, via the Science, Technology & Research Trust (PRST), invested in 60 startup companies has begun to show results.

The first two generations of startups that went through Puerto Rico-based accelerator Parallel18 (P18) achieved, between April 2016 and April 2017, global sales of $13.99 million, of which $7.99 million was generated on the island.

El intercambio de genes son los elementos funcionales para el desarrollo de la expresión especial de las alas de las mariposas, evidenció el resultado de una investigación liderada por Riccardo Papa, profesor del Departamento de Biología de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras (UPRRP), y el estudiante graduado Steven Van Belleghem.

El intercambio de módulos genéticos existentes entre razas con distintos patrones de color puede explicar una gran fracción de la extrema diversificación observada en las mariposas Neotropicales Heliconius.

Personnel and volunteers from the Center of Ecological Restoration and Conservation of the University of Puerto Rico at Aguadilla went on their first visit to Isla de Mona to collaborate on habitat restoration of the island's iguana (Cyclura stejnegeri). This work was done in collaboration with the non-profit organization Island Conservation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources of Puerto Rico.

This tool will help people choose the appropriate native tree to plant based on their needs, characteristics and available space.
