*UPR-Río Piedras has the only Aerosol station in the Caribbean and Southern Hemisphere.  

For more than a decade, a group of students from the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, has been distinguished for generating information researching the impact of particles in the environment. This work is done at the Aereosol Station located at Las Cabezas de San Juan Light Hourse in Fajardo.

The Puerto Rico Conservation Trust announced the creation of a new division called "Para la Naturaleza" (translated as 'for nature'), focused on protecting 33% of land in Puerto Rico by 2033. Currently only 8% of land in Puerto Rico is protected, according to the Trust's executive director, Fernando Lloverás.
