The tremor of magnitude 4.6 on the Ritcher scale, which occurred on March 12 in southern Guayama, and caused structural damage to schools, buildings and homes in different parts of the country, has raised doubts among experts on whether Puerto Rico is ready to withstand a major earthquake.

The Puerto Rico Seismic Netowrk is encouraging the publci to register and participate in Lantex 2015, a tsunami drill to be held March 25, 2015 at 10 a.m. AST.

The Seismic Design Team from the Department of Civil Engineering University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez will participate in a competition organized by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), which presents the challenge of building a model of building that can resist a strong earthquake.
