2011 is the International Chemistry Year. Puerto Rico will begin to celebrate this month with the "Science Cafe", a series of seminars on the strong links between chemistry and our everyday lives. The chemistry festivities will reach their height later this year when Puerto Rico hosts the 43rd World Congress of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) from July 30 to August 7. This event will have the participation of seven Nobel Prize winners.

High schools students learned about how the human body works in a workshop offered by members of the Department of Physiology of the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus.
