El exceso de luz artificial o contaminación lumínica que sufre Puerto Rico afecta a especies animales como tortugas y aves, aunque es un problema del que tampoco se libra la población de la isla caribeña.

El director ejecutivo de la Junta de Calidad Ambiental (JCA), Weldin Ortiz, señaló hoy a Efe que ante el problema de contaminación lumínica en la Isla su agencia apuesta por la educación. Las expresiones de Ortiz fueron durante la inauguración del Tercer foro sobre prevención y control de la contaminación lumínica en Puerto Rico.

Murthy, the Surgeon General of the United States of America, and the main reason for his visit to Puerto Rico this week. Dr. Murthy emphasized the importance of collectively fighting the virus by taking preventive measures.

850,000 people are projected to become infected with zika virus by the end of this year, representing a fourth of Puerto Rico's population and surpassing the initial projections anticipated by the CDC.

Almost 8,000 used tires and 279,980 pounds of rubble were collected by employees from the City of San Juan as part of the National Day for Cleaning Mosquito Breeding Places. The mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulin Cruz Soto, affirmed that prevention is the best action to control the Zika epidemic.

Three new bee species were discovered in the southern crop zones of Puerto Rico by the Peruvian ecologist, Sara Prado. These new species are being investigated to better understand their habits and contributions to the ecosystem.
