The non-profit organization, Para la Naturaleza, recently awarded five grants for interdisciplinary research on botany through its Botanical Institute (IB). 

The Botanical Institute is a novel initiative in Puerto Rico that is part of the global trends that seek to highlight the importance of botanical science both in ecosystem conservation efforts and in the enrichment of human culture. This opportunity is aimed at developing new approaches and methods to create knowledge that place botany as an integral part of human affairs in all its dimensions.

MBQ Pharma announces the First-in-Human Dose of MBQ-167 for Advanced Breast Cancer in a Phase 1 Clinical Trial in Puerto Rico with the dual targeted Rac/Cdc42 inhibitor

- MBQ-167 is a first-in-class small molecule and dual targeted inhibitor of over-expression of two proteins (Rac and Cdc42) that enable cancer metastasis and increased resistance to other anti-
cancer agents.

- 90% of cancer-related deaths are related to cancer metastasis and MBQ-167 is being evaluated in
this first human clinical trial to determine the best dose to evaluate this investigational drug in
future studies to determine its safety and efficacy for reducing this terrible outcome.

Dr. Agustín Rullán Toro, Rector of the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus (RUM), welcomed 20 new professors who have joined the institution's faculty. 

"This exciting chapter in the institution's educational history, marks a significant milestone in the unwavering commitment we have to provide an education of excellence to future generations," said the Rector. 

He added that since the beginning of the faculty recruitment process in December 2020, the academic departments have worked hard to identify and select the most outstanding candidates.
