Allegations by Thomas Forest Farb, former director of the Puerto Rico Science Trust, that the public trustees repeatedly blocked the naming of new private trustees to retain control of the operations and assets of the Trust have acquired new relevance now that the public trustees have rushed the appointment of new private trustees.

The Secretary of Economic Development, José Pérez Riera, defended himself against lawsuit allegations saying that he and other government officials "sequestered" the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust, saying that the decisions regarding those funds were made together by the governmental and private trustees of the institution.

Thomas F. Farb, former executive director of the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust has filed a Federal lawsuit against José Pérez Riera, Secretary of Economic Development, and several other government officials, under allegations that the Fortuño Administration "sequestered" at least $100 million of the Trust's funds with the intentions of using them for purposes different to those established by the law that created the Trust.
