YCA is pleased to welcome 24 talented biomedical or health sciences PhD students from 23 different institutions across the US  as our new class of YCA Fellows!

The new cohort is incredibly rich in terms of scientific accomplishments, diversity of interests and backgrounds, and leadership experience. We can't wait to see all they will grow and accomplish over the upcoming year.

"I hope to make you proud," says the new astronaut as he sends a message to Puerto Rico during an interview with El Nuevo Dia.

Houston, Texas - Recognizing the importance of representing Puerto Rico and the Latino community, Marcos Gabriel Berríos officially became a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut on Tuesday, with the opportunity to go, in the coming years, to the International Space Station (ISS) and be the first Puerto Rican to set foot on the moon.

"I hope to make you proud. Thank you for the support you have given me," Berríos said in an interview with El Nuevo Día shortly after the ceremony, speaking to Puerto Rico, to whose beaches he hopes to return for vacation in as soon as two weeks.

Two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, and many have yet to learn that the way out of the global emergency is not through individualism and nationalism, but through solidarity.

More than 3 billion people around the world remain unvaccinated, in part because of vaccine hoarding by wealthy nations like the U.S. Beyond the coronavirus’ biology, the main reason COVID-19 continues to rage is such failures of solidarity – in government, public policy, messaging, and civic society.

My name is Magdiel J. Torres Gonzalez. I’m a first year natural science student. Some of my interests as a science student are to prepare myself to enter med school after I graduate from my bachelor. CienciaPR launches a new educational campaign to promote vaccination against COVID-19

To inspire confidence in COVID-19 vaccines and promote vaccination as an act of solidarity, the non-profit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) has just launched the second public service campaign of the "Aquí Nos Cuidamos Toolkit" under the theme, "Vacúnate, por ti y por mí" (Get vaccinated, for you and for me). This effort coincides with the World Immunization Week declared by the World Health Organization and celebrated from April 25 to May 1 this year.

To continue promoting education for the prevention of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, the non-profit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) developed the "Aquí Nos Cuidamos Toolkit" or #AquiNosCuidamosPR. More than a month since Maria hit Puerto Rico, there is still a lot of standing water and a large number of households with little or no access to potable water, which increases the possibility of diseases such as leptospirosis, gastroenteritis, dengue, zika and chikungunya. However, many of these diseases are preventable if citizens take the right precautions.

En Marruecos se llevó a cabo COP22, la conferencia más importante del año donde los líderes del mundo discutieron cómo trabajar sobre el cambio climático. Esta culminó el viernes, 18 de noviembre de 2016 con aún mucho que trabajar en el tema.
