Científicos Al Servicio: Transforming education by connecting students with local scientific talent

San Juan, May 20, 2025 - More than 22,000 Puerto Rican students benefited from the Científicos Al Servicio program, an educational initiative of Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) that promotes the active participation of experts in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in science education in the country, in its virtual and on-site modality, culminated with great success in its most recent editions.

San Juan, Puerto Rico – L'Oréal Caribe and Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) celebrated the third graduation of the For Girls in Science program, an initiative that provides tools and academic mentoring to young women to gain admission to university programs in STEM. In this edition, 18 high school students successfully completed the program, which culminated in a graduation ceremony at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. This ceremony featured the special participation of Deborah Martorell, who will soon become the first meteorologist to travel to space, who shared a message about perseverance and vocation, encouraging young women to claim their space in science.

New CienciaPR board members make their debut

Composed of leaders in science, engineering, entrepreneurship, and finance, five experts committed to the mission of Ciencia Puerto Rico have joined together to form the organization's new board of directors.

They are Jorge L. Colón, Angiemille Latorre, Kevin M. Alicea TorresNahir González and Cristina Grillasca, who will have a fiduciary role in protecting the mission and vision of our organization by providing strategic advice to ensure its continuity.

Semillas de Triunfo launches second chapter in Connecticut

CienciaPR's executive director Greetchen Díaz Muñoz always dreamed of growing Semillas de Triunfo, one of the organization's flagship programs, outside of Puerto Rico. This past Saturday, January 25, 2025, ten years after founding the program, her yearning to create seedbeds of student leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in other regions was fulfilled with the launch of the second chapter of Semillas de Triunfo in New Haven, Connecticut, known as Seeds of Success-New Haven.

Seeds of Success-New Haven is being conducted in collaboration with Yale University. It is being led there by Carolina Machado, project manager, and Giovanna Guerrero Medina, former executive director of CienciaPR and now a senior advisor to the organization. 

AAAS Caribbean Division celebrates women at convention

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Caribbean Division celebrated women in science in their 39th convention. The event recognized the first Puerto Rican neurologist, Dr. Ana Judith Román García, for her career and professional legacy.

CienciaPR celebrates its first Noche de Ciencia Boricua

Alongside friends, colleagues, and sponsors, CienciaPR celebrated its first Noche de Ciencia Boricua on October 24. The event highlighted the most notable achievements of the organization since its foundation as a community in 2006. The activity also served to officially welcome the new executive director of the organization, Dr. Greetchen Díaz Muñoz, who took office in September 2024
