Advancing Research Communication and Scholarship Conference
ARCS is a conference designed to examine the practices, roles, attitudes, trends, and technologies that drive and affect scholarly communication. Through cross-disciplinary participation from scholars, librarians, scientists, publishers, professional societies, and funders, we will transcend organizational and disciplinary silos to positively influence the communication of scholarly knowledge in the digital age.

Keynote Speakers
With their work and scholarship, our 2015 keynote speakers embody ARCS cross-disciplinary, cross-functional spirit and span the activities of the scholarly communication network.
William Noel
Will Noel oversees the collections, research services and public programs of the Penn Libraries Special Collections Center and is the founding Director of the Schoenberg Institute for Manuscript Studies. A specialist in the fields of Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-Norman manuscripts, Will came to University of Pennsylvania in 2012 from The Walters Art Museum where he had been Curator of Manuscripts and Rare Books since 1997. Will has groundbreaking experience in the application of digital technologies to manuscript studies and is especially well known for directing an international program to conserve, image and study the Archimedes Palimpsest, the unique source for three treatises by the ancient Greek mathematician. With funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities he built the Digital Walters, an open access library that presents full digital surrogates and catalogs of illuminated Islamic, English, Dutch, Central European, Armenian, Byzantine, Ethiopian and Flemish manuscripts. Will has published extensively, including, The Archimedes Codex: How a Medieval Prayer Book is Revealing the True Genius of Antiquity's Greatest Scientist.

Mónica I. Feliú-Mójer
Dr. Mónica Feliú-Mójer is the vice-director for Ciencia Puerto Rico, a Yale-based non-profit organization that leverages a social networking platform to connect a geographically-dispersed Hispanic scientific community and to engage them with social impact initiatives in science outreach, communication and education. She is also science outreach program manager withiBiology, a UCSF-based non-profit that engages the world's leading biologists to produce educational open-access videos in topics in biology, science education, policy and beyond. She holds a PhD in neurobiology from Harvard University. As an outreach scientist, Monica is focused on building bridges between those who are doing research and those who may benefit from it. She has spoken extensively about the impact of access to information on this work. In 2013, the Coalition for the Public Understanding of Science (COPUS) awarded Monica the Paul Shin Memorial Award, which recognizes the unsung heroes of scientific communication. She is passionate about making science available to everyone.
