Location:

Condado Plaza Hotel

The 2017 Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL) Regional Meeting on the island of Puerto Rico will be held on May 26th, 2017 at the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. Our faculty development conference, Culturally sensitive strategies proven to increase the retention and graduation rates for undergraduate Latinos will assembly distinguished Latino lecturers addressing current initiatives with successful outcomes that improve the retention and graduation rates of undergraduate Latinos. Special interest will be placed on the cultural sensitivity of the approaches taken. To ensure a highly interactive meeting, we will have two sessions of workshops with diverse teams of educators, mathematicians, social scientists, biologists and chemists. A networking lunch is also planned to bring together educators, scientists, artists, investigators, and members of non-profit educational organizations to intensively collaborate on ideas for the design of proposals that will alleviate current equity problems on the Latino undergraduate classrooms. For this purpose, Dr. Kamau Bobb, a program director from the National Science Foundation will join us to talk about new funding inactivates like the NSF INCLUDES program designed to improve the inclusion of Latinos into STEM. It is our hope that this meeting will ultimately lead to the establishment of specific collaborations between faculty from other Hispanic Serving Institutions, associations, and industries, who are genuinely interested on further submitting proposals to advance education.

Please join us for a productive conference to discuss easily implemented strategies that will promote equity at your institution.
