A group of scientist at the Medical Sciences Campus (RCM), University of Puerto Rico (UPR) are studying Huntington's disease. The team is lead by Dr.Sylvette Ayala-Peña.

Ther author is a doctral student at RCM-UPR and a member of Ciencia Puerto Rico.

Using sophisticated technologies, similar to those used by the Curiosity, physicist Antonio Martínez Collazo from the Physics Department at the University of Puerto Rico is helping restores art pieces at the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico with the collaboration from NASA Space Grant Consortium of Puerto Rico, Environmental Sciences Department and the IGERT Graguate Program.

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Sabzali Javadov, Department of Physiology at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine to conduct NIH-funded research on the role of mitochondria in the progression of heart failure. Our Lab elucidates the role of mitochondrial permeability transition in mitochondrial fragmentation induced by oxidative stress in ischemia/reperfusion and heart failure.

De primera instancia, quizás el lector piense que los problemas de la Universidad de Puerto Rico (UPR) con la Fundación Nacional de Ciencias (National Science Foundation, NSF) no le conciernen. Pero el problema con la NSF no es un asunto que solo afecta a un puñado de académicos.

La incompetencia, que raya en lo insólito, demostrada por las autoridades de la Universidad de Puerto Rico (UPR) al atender los señalamientos de la National Science Foundation (NSF), entidad que financia muchas de las investigaciones científicas que se conducen en la UPR, además de provocar la pérdida de decenas de millones de dólares, ya ha causado daño irreversible al prestigio de la institución.
