Ivan Vidal–Gonzalez, Benjam’n Vidal–Gonzalez, Scott L. Rauch, and Gregory J. Quirk Vol. 13 (6) 728–733. Ivan murio mientras trataba de heroicamente rescatar a su novia, quien no sabia nadar, de las corrientes de playa sucia en Cabo Rojo. Tuvo una corta pero ilustre carrera como cientifico en el laboratorio del Dr. Quirk, y toco muchas vidas.
Assistant / Associate Professor Neurogenetics The Institute of Neurobiology at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Candidates should apply genetic techniques to fundamental problems in developmental or systems neuroscience. I would like to congratulate Daniel Colón Ramos, director and co-founder of CienciaPR and post-doctoral fellow at Stanford University, who was recently awarded the National Institutes of Health Pathway to Independence Award (NIH K-99/R00 award: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/new_investigators/index.htm). This program will give the young investigator almost a million dollars over a period of five years to start his own laboratory and new research program.

Hola Mi nombre es Wilfredo De Jesus Rojas, tengo 20 años de edad. Soy estudiante de la UPR en Cayey, departemento de Biologia. Durante el pasado verano 2006 estuve realizando investigaciones sobre melanomas y su comportamiento ante la rigidez del sustrato en el Instituto de Bioingenieria y medicina de la Universidad de Pennsylvania. El trabajo fue sometido a la conferencia ISPIRE de la Universidad de Mississippi donde recientemente obtuve el primer premio bajo la categoria mejor presentacion oral en Biomedicina. Me gustaria realizar seguir realizando investigaciones en Biomedicina, pues me interesa obtener un MD/Phd. My name is Jorge Velez-Juarbe; I am a Geology student at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez with an interest in the field of Paleontology. Recently, a paper about fossil crabs from the Caribbean, in which I am a co-author, has been published. Schweitzer, C. E., M. Iturralde-Vinent, J. L. Hetler and J. Vélez-Juarbe. 2006. Oligocene and Miocene decapods (Thalassinidea and Brachyura) from the Caribbean. Annals of Carnegie Museum 75:111-136. In this paper we describe seven new taxa of fossil crabs from Puerto Rico, Cuba and Dominican Republic. The fossils were found in rocks that range from 33 to 5 million years ago. We discuss their distribution and ecology and is also the first time that Cuban fossil crabs are described. In the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, fossils crabs had not been studied in the last 85 and 40 years, respectively.
