The threats that the cucubano (a species of Puerto Rican click beetle) has faced for the last half century are leading scientists to hypothesize that the insect—know for its bioluminescence—is endangered, although thee are no scientific studies confirming this yet.

Manatees Aramaná and Yuisa were removed from the area in front of Punta Salinas beach in Toa Baja, where they had been adapting to sea life after being rehabilitated, at the possibility that there may be a fuel spill from the American Cruise Ferries ship that ran aground near the coast of San Juan.

The Astronomy Society of Puerto Rico invites the general public to their monthly conference this next Wednesday, August 17 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Planetarium in the Parque de Las Ciencias at Bayamon. A recent study from the Global Footprint Network concluded that if global consumption continues at the current rate, we would need 1.6 planets Earth to satisfy the demands of humanity. Specifically, Puerto Rico would need a territorial extension 26 times its size in order to harvest the food needed to support its population and to be assimilate the contaminants generated by the 3.5 million inhabitants.
