Committed to fostering interest in the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers, the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao (UPRH) hosted more than 30 students participating in the Seeds of Success program, sponsored by the non-profit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico.

(Humacao, P.R.) - El Instituto Transdisciplinario de Investigación-Acción Social (ITIAS) de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Humacao (UPRH) invita a estudiantes de escuela superior y universidad a someter sus trabajos y participar del 3er Festival de Cortometrajes Microrrelatos de Cambio Climático, que se llevará a cabo el próximo 20 de octubre en el Centro Criollo de Ciencias y Tecnología del Caribe (C3Tec) en el municipio de Caguas.

Boricua students receive the Graduate Research Fellowship Program grant

We would like to congratulate all the students who received the prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This fellowship recognizes and supports students who have excelled in science, mathematics, technology or engineering (also known as STEM disciplines) and other fields of knowledge. Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $34,000 per year to pursue graduate studies. The application is highly competitive and extensive, requiring several letters of recommendation, a personal essay and a research proposal with an intellectual merit section and a societal impact section.

Asking not to replant invasive orchids in Puerto Rico

Several studies done at the University of Puerto Rico inform on the impact of an invasive species, the phillipine orchid (Spathoglottis plicata), which competes with the native species of orchid Bletia patula. They urge the public not to take and replant this exotic orchid in order to control the dispersion of the plant and the effects on the ecosystem.
