What Exactly Is Stanford PRISM?

PRISM (Postdoctoral Recruitment Initiative in Science and Medicine) is an opportunity for late-stage graduate students from broadly diverse backgrounds to explore postdoctoral training at Stanford. PRISM provides an opportunity to interview with faculty mentors, get the inside scoop on postdoctoral training/lab environments at Stanford from current postdocs, and access professional development to score the best possible postdoc match!

The purpose of this program is to encourage those students who might not otherwise consider a postdoctoral position at Stanford. PRISM allows for guests to get a first-hand look at whether this institution and its campus community might truly be a good fit for their needs. Therefore, our goal is to match trainees from institutions and organizations across the country with excellent mentors here at Stanford!

Who Is Eligible?

While PRISM is open to all individuals who are expecting to earn a PhD by the end of August 2023, we especially encourage those from backgrounds underrepresented within academia to apply, including communities such as but not limited to: African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, Filipinos, those with disabilities, those from FLI (first gen and/or low income) backgrounds, and those underrepresented on the basis of their gender identity, gender expression, and/or sexual orientation. Individuals with U.S. Citizenship and/or Permanent Residency may be given priority.

How Do You Apply?

Applications consist of an application form (available via the link below), an applicants' CV, a research statement, a recommendation from your graduate advisor, and the names of up to 6 potential faculty mentors at Stanford. For more information on our program and/or to apply, please visit our webpage: http://postdocs.stanford.edu/PRISM

Expected Dates for PRISM Cohort 9 = May 4th-7th, 2022

NOTE: We hope to bring PRISM Cohort 9 (in-person) for a 3-5-night stay on Stanford University's campus. The goal is for prospective postdocs to use that time to explore the training environment and to meet with actual Stanford staff/faculty/postdoc peers. However, travel will be dependent upon the local & federal travel policies in place at that time... (If we are unable to host candidates in-person, a full complement of recruitment events will be offered virtually.)
