Description:

Coral Reef Discovery Week is a fun and intense hands-on course for high school-aged students seriously interested in studying coastal, marine & environmental science, natural resource management, and conservation, and in learning about careers in these topics.  The week involves short presentations and lectures from UVI faculty, staff, and community partners, and will be focused on learning scientific techniques with tools in the field.  Participants report to the UVI Center for Marine & Environmental Studies but can expect to travel with staff to other on-island locations for field work and activities. Snorkel gear and instructional materials are provided for the week.  This is a FREE program.

Eligibility:

Space is limited to 12 high school-aged USVI and BVI students. Students must apply to the program to be considered for participation.  Participants must be able to demonstrate that they can comfortably swim and snorkel. A certified lifeguard and swim instructor will be supervising during the course. This is not an overnight camp and students must provide their own transportation to and from the UVI Center for Marine & Environmental Studies.

Deadline:
July 22-26th, 2013, 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Applications accepted until June 24^th; notification to qualified students will be on a rolling basis. Seats fill up fast so get your application in early!
